Choosing Myself- Again and Again
My journey to health has been the process of choosing myself- over and over and over again.
Saying no to things that are draining my energy, even when it’s hard and my people-pleasing patterns show up strongly.
Letting go of situations where I don’t feel seen, heard, and valued, even when it is bringing me a sense of belonging and purpose.
Saying yes to things that light me up, even when it doesn’t make sense.
Looking back, I always felt worse physically when I was in unhealthy situations. My body was screaming “You need to let go of this!” while my mind would make all of the excuses why I needed to stay- perceived love, safety, connection, because I made a commitment, because I didn’t want to let someone down, etc.
We are programmed to prioritize commitment to others over ourselves and our own well-being.
But we can’t pour from an empty cup. And often our relationship to ourselves needs to come first.
Our bodies are wise and will let us know when people, situations, or environments are out of alignment and we need to let them go.
